The Jallianwalabagh massacre also known as the Amritsar massacre took place on 13 April 1919, when the British was ruling over India.
Under the orders of acting Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer the British Indian Army Troops open fires their rifles into a crowd of unarmed Indian civilians. The open fire killed over 400 men and women. And over 1000 people were injured. This massacre marked a running point in Indian’s modern history.

A force of several dozen troops commanded by Brig. Gen. Reginald Edward Harry Dyer was given the job of restoring order. Among many measures which was taken a ban on public gatherings was also taken.
On the Afternoon of April 13, a crowd of at least 10,000 men and women and children gathered in the Jallianwalabagh, which was completely closed and there was no way to escape through the tough walls guarded by the British Indian troops. The place only had one exit and everyone was trapped inside. It is not clear how mush people there were protestors who were defying the ban on public meetings and how many had come to the city from the surrounding region to celebrate Baisakhi, a spring festival,utterly famous in the Punjab region.
Dyer and his army arrived and sealed the exit. Without even giving a slightest warning the troops opened fire on the crowd. The kept on shooting and shooting until they ran out of ammunition. Many people died in the blood bath. According to a report, an estimated 379 people were killed and about 1200 and more were wounded. After they ceased firing, the troops left the place, leaving the dead and wounded behind.
